Personal Website - Under Construction

Oddly enough, after all these years working in the software industry, it never occurred to me to create my very own website.

Hopefully I'll get my first "bobo" version up and running soon.

IGDA - Montreal Chapter Part II

In my previous post I mentioned I registered to possibly meet a few old friends from times past.  What I hadn't noticed was that EA Montreal, A2M and DC Studios don't seem to be subsidizing memberships anymore... or at least that's the impression I get when I consult the members directory.  Where the @!#%& is everybody?

I think the last time I checked the registry, pretty much everyone I knew was a member and I was the only odd man out.  Now almost everyone I know is no longer registered and I seem to be the only one there.  Adding insult to injury, I had to pay out of my pocket to become a member contrary to the majority of the people I know.  Ahh... the irony.

This sort of thing seems to happen to me all the time, which probably contributes to my quirky personality.

IGDA - Montreal Chapter

Well, after many years of neglecting to officially register myself to the IGDA, I have finally decided to do so for the next 2 years.  Maybe it was the exhorbitant fees at the time, something like 90.00 US per year I think.  Not something I was willing to spend considering the pay situation at SFI.  Basically we never really knew if the pay would be delayed or if the company would eventually go bankrupt (which it sort of did before it got bought by Silverstar Holdings).

Can't say I totally shunned the IGDA in the past though, since I have attended 4 or 5 seminars by paying the 5 dollar fee at the time.  However, I found the presentations for the most part a little underwhelming and my lasting impressions were not overly positive.  I suppose I was too picky and perhaps a tad overworked at the time...

As for me finally deciding to take the plunge, I guess a few factors contributed to that.  For one, I figure I may run into a few old friends from time to time.  I think I was also pleasantly surprised the registration fees were revised and are more reasonable than in the past (half price).  Finally, I also always wondered how they handle the roundtables which is reserved for IGDA members, so that might have been the little additional incentive I needed.

I think had I realized my registration would allow me to benefit from numerous discounts on books, I would have done so much earlier.  Live and learn.

Uploaded my Header - Yanick Blenkhorn

Ok, just got my header image uploaded.  Had a hard time finding a decent layout.  Tempted to get an upgraded account with a monthly fee, but no... I must resist the urge.
